Services

We are a no-frills, old-school rebuilding service. We help bring the fun back to your FI unit. Simply stated, we rebuild or repair your complete unit to the condition that you are requesting. We do not offer fancy advertising, high-pressure sales to replace all of your original parts and no bull.

As hobbyists, we understand that repairs can add up quickly. Some customers only want to have their unit mechanically repaired and we honor these requests. Original parts returned upon request when replaced. We only replace parts that are no longer serviceable or when the unit is unable to perform to its full capability. Sometimes it can be as simple as the disassembly and reassembly of the fuel meter, the replacement of the main/power diaphragms, or just the a dial in on the engine test stand.

We can rebuild gear pumps, replace gear pump shaft seals, replace shaft carbon bearings, and bring the gear pump back within factory tolerances.

We can restore the original appearance when requested via beading and plating. We offer a couple of cosmetic options.

Services We Do Offer

Here you can see a 1958 Pontiac unit before and after.

Suggestions that you will likely hear from us:

  • As long as you are making at least 10.5 inches of vacuum, the unit should work well.
  • Mechanical engine timing is key to the performance of your unit.
  • These units were designed by a team of engineers to work specifically with specific camshaft combinations. Deviations from these may cause you a headache in the long run.
  • Heat soak and today’s pump gas can lead to a lower performance experience on a really hot day. With summer days averaging 110 degrees, we understand this all too well. Most units on real fuel cars are still driveable up to 104 degrees. Stop and go driving leads to percolation.
  • Vacuum is vacuum. Your unit will need to make engine vacuum to perform.
  • If you rely on another rebuilder/hobbyist, make sure they engine test the unit before it is returned to you.

Questions we will likely ask you:

  • What engine, camshaft and power options will the unit be coupled with?
  • How much vacuum does your engine make?
  • Are you running a four speed or automatic transmission
  • What was the unit doing when it was last running? ( too rich, too lean, backfiring, leaking, irregular performance)

We can help you source missing parts. Many units over time have taken abuse and items have had less than stellar repairs. We are happy to work with customers to repair broken items such as fuel meters or worn float assemblies. Stripped holes, cracks in housings, missing ears or ovaled float holes can usually be salvaged. See our page on repairs.

Brian Futo was researching, gathering information, and repairing units long before the fuelly became such a sought-after car. With over forty years of real wrenching experience and an owner, he has restored countless numbers of units and has helped many a hobbyist troubleshoot their F.I. problems.

As a publishing author of many fuel injection service articles and serving as the Fuel Injection Technical Advisor for the leading Corvette publication for many decades, his understanding of system design, engineering, and original product performance is second nature. Together, he and his son in law, continue to offer reputable services that you can rely on. The passing of knowledge from one generation to the next is critical since this is such a specialized fuel delivery system.
